My Career Aspirations:
I am highly interested in working in the laboratory and think any such opportunity to better my skills and expand my knowledge would be extremely valuable and key in my career development. I believe that my laboratory skills and knowledge in both disciplines have greatly benefited my overall understanding of the basic techniques employed by various laboratories ranging from biomedical to food science labs. This, together with my personal attributes, would enable me to make a positive contribution to my working environment.
Throughout my studies, I have developed many laboratory skills such as analytical techniques, scientific report writeups, and laboratory safety through various chemical and biochemical experiments. The biochemistry laboratory techniques that have been introduced to me during my undergraduate degree include basic laboratory techniques (pipetting techniques, serial dilutions, centrifuge handling, microscopy, and cell culturing), titrations, spectrophotometry, and SDS-page analysis. My chemistry courses have provided me with an invaluable understanding of the following techniques: chromatography, electrolysis, IR spectroscopy, calorimetry, crystallization and recrystallisation, and interpretation of NMR and mass spectra.
Throughout my studies, I have received positive feedback from my superiors pertaining to my scientific writing and thorough research. When collaborating with my university peers, I have been complimented on my organization and problem-solving abilities. While working within a team, I enjoy driving the group forward and synchronizing our efforts towards achieving our tasks successfully. I am an active listener and take note of instructions consistently. I have a high level of computer literacy and am experienced with many programs including Microsoft Office.
